I am Jimena, a Mexican designer currently based in The Netherlands. I am interested in people, their stories and their lives. I believe in art as the medium to turn ideas, narratives and intangible concepts into every day, material, relatable objects, thus I chose to do my bachelor in Product Design in Mexico City and my master in Arts and Society in The Netherlands.
I have been lucky enough to develop professionally in multiple fields; from being an independent designer, working with autonomous indigenous communities, being project manager at a design studio and most recently at The Prince Claus Fund collaborating in the creation and sustainability of global artists’ networks.
In this career path I developed a creative and artistic mindset. However, I have to recognize that it has always been thanks to the collaboration with different people, organizations and institutions that have help my work to become much more significant. In this framework, I recognize art and design not as an end-product. Rather, as the outcome of creating projects that are economically and cultural sustainable so they can truly reflect different realities. In this journey, the main capabilities I have developed are concept development; to have a clear idea of an end goal and the story telling process that involves it. Design; to bring ideas into tangible products and actions. Project management; to bring different talents together to acomplish a common goal. And, finally, network sustainability; to foster long-term relationships and collaborations.
I invite you to visit my online portafolio, and hopefully, get in contact with me to discuss future collaborations.
